Online high schools in New Mexico

New Mexico's high school graduation rate was 66 percent in the 2008-2009 school year, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Students who are in danger of leaving a traditional school could consider online education before dropping out of school entirely. Virtual studies can be the solution for students who don't fit into the traditional mold. For students who are busy caring for their families or working, the flexible schedule is a good fit.

Public and private online high schools in New Mexico

New Mexico's state-sponsored program uses a course management system that comes packaged with a web forum and a chat room, and the system encompasses professional teacher development, continuing education and workforce training. The IDEAL-NM program -- which stands for Innovative Digital Education and Learning -- generally assigns students a specific period or location during the day to access a distance learning class. IDEAL-NM serves special education, advanced, remedial, home school, and nonpublic school students; for example, home schooled students can pay for a semester course seat, which includes support services.

IDEAL-NM is designed to expand the curricula at local schools and resolve scheduling conflicts. You could choose to take Advanced Placement coursework, such as Environmental Science or Calculus, or you could complete required coursework and electives in a range of subjects. Electives might include Entrepreneurship, Media Literacy and Career Exploration.

Private online high schools offer additional choices and may be more flexible in terms of enrollment and scheduling. There are no residency requirements, meaning you can continue your education even if you move out-of-state. Private schools also may come with different financial aid or tuition requirements for students. Check out the world of New Mexico online high schools and discover where you fit in.
